Programmes
- a) Voter Education
- 1. To provide adequate, accurate and unbiased voter education;
- 2. To ensure that voter education provided by persons other than political parties is adequate and not misleading or biased in favour of any political party; ;
- 3. To ensure compliance or otherwise by persons referred to in paragraph (2) with the provisions of Section 15 (1) of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Act (Chapter 2: 12).
Who Provides Voter Education?
One of the functions of the ZEC is to provide and co-ordinate the provision of voter education. The ZEC may appoint any locally funded Zimbabwean person, voluntary organisation, association or trust to assist it in providing voter education.
Foreign Funding - No foreign funding for the purposes of voter education shall be made except to the ZEC, which may allocate such funding to persons, voluntary organisations, associations or trusts appointed to conduct voter education (Section 16 of the ZEC Act).
ZEC approves all voter education materials to be used by mandated persons or organisations, to ensure uniformity, impartiality and suitability.
- b) Elections Observations
So far ZEC has participated in the observation of elections in the following countries: Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, DRC, Zambia, Madagascar, and Lesotho
- c) Conferences
ZEC officials have attended conferences in South Africa, Burundi, Ethiopia, Swaziland, and Botswana
- d) Election Management Training
ZEC senior officials have attended training seminars in Botswana, Swaziland and South Africa.
- e ) Membership
ZEC is a member of the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC (ECF-SADC)
